Box Score FRISCO – A pair of big innings were too much for the Sam Houston Bearkats to overcome on Saturday as they fell to Kansas State, 14-3, at Riders Field on the second day of the Frisco College Classic.
K-State (5-5) was coming off an extra-inning loss to No. 2 LSU on Friday and jumped out to an early lead, taking advantage of the first Bearkat (2-8) fielding miscue of the day to plate four runs in the second. The Kats stayed within striking distance until the Wildcats put things away with a 5-run top of the seventh.
Sam Houston was a perfect 6-for-6 on the bases in the game, setting a new Frisco Classic single-game for stolen bases, eclipsing DBU's five swipes against Missouri in 2021. But the Bearkat offense could not take advantage, going 1-for-13 with runners on base and ultimately stranding 10 runners in scoring position.
Addison Smith had a pair of singles for the Kats, while Brady Christensen drove in Sam Houston's first two runs with a 2-out single in the bottom of the third. Hunter Autrey walked twice and had a sac fly in the seventh, while Parker Blackman had a hit and tied a Frisco Classic single-game individual record with three stolen bases.
Devin Bennett got the start and took the loss after allowing five runs – one earned – in 4.0 innings of work. K-State's Michael Quevedo struck out 10 in 5.0 innings for the win to run his season record to 2-0.
