Kats fall 8-1 against NM State

HUNTSVILLE — The Bearkats fell 8-1 to New Mexico State in the series opener Friday night at the Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
Sam Houston (16-13, 2-2 CUSA) struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Morgan Holliday doubled to give the Bearkats an early 1-0 lead.Â
New Mexico State (14-13, 4-0 CUSA) responded in the fourth inning, taking control of the game and building momentum at the plate. The Aggies plated multiple runs in the following four innings and continued to add to their lead as they pulled away for the 8-1 victory to open the three-game series.Â
Tiffany Sanchez started in the circle for the Bearkats and pitched five innings, recording eight strikeouts. Makenzi Jenkins entered in relief and closed out the game, pitching the final two innings with three strikeouts.Â
The Bearkats will look to even the series when play resumes Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Bearkat Softball Complex.Â
