HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston found its offense and Ryan Peterson found his groove as the Bearkats opened their series with Delaware with a 13-2 win in seven innings on Friday night at Don Sanders Stadium.
Peterson allowed two runs and five hits over his first three innings of work before settling in and exiting with his sixth win of the season, allowing just one hit over his final 2.2 innings of the night. He tallied five strikeouts and was without a walk for the second straight start, getting a standing ovation from the crowd in what will likely be his final start at The Don.
His start was paired with the Bearkat (21-29, 10-15 CUSA) offense getting going with four straight multi-run innings to earn the run-rule win. The Kats drew eight free passes from UD (17-32, 5-20 CUSA) pitching and got multi-hit games from Nathan Fink, Caleb Cotton and Wes Baker en route to lowering their magic number to three for a berth in the upcoming CUSA Tournament.
Cotton and Cade Corcoran each homered in the game while Fink had a triple and game-high three RBI. Connor Mondey went the final 1.1 innings to close it out.
