
Kats take fifth at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Sam Houston men's golf team finished fifth at the Louisiana Classis at Oakbourne Country Club.
The Bearkats played consistently against a field which featured three nationally-ranked teams. The Kats finished with +4 in the final round, shooting +7 over 54 holes. Hugo Trommetter led the Kats by finishing with a tie for 10th and fired off 72-69-72 to close at three under par.
In the end, No. 7 LSU took the team title, finishing 19 shots under par overall. The next closest team to LSU was three-time defending champion Texas A&M, ranked No. 24 nationally, at 17 under. The Aggies were followed by the host Ragin' Cajuns with seven shots under and No. 38 Little Rock at one shot over.
Gene Chaikangwal and Josh German tied for 28th overall in the individual ranks. Chaikangwal shot 71-75-74 and German shot 73-71-76 coming off a strong second round with one under. Bret Gray came in just behind them at +5 and shoting consistently with 74-74-73 on his 3-day scorecard.
Alex Malanga had a strong final round with just one over to put him 75-77-73 and tied for 49th individually. Sebastian May placed 59th as an individual finishing with 76-75-77.
The Bearkats will be in action against next week in the All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston. The tournament will begin Monday, March 17, and is hosted by the Houston Cougars.
