
Louisiana Classics up next for men's golf

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Sam Houston men's golf team is traveling to Lafayette, La., for the 40th annual Louisiana Classics, beginning Monday, March 10 at the Oakbourne Country Club.
The event, hosted by the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, will consist of 54 holes with 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Louisiana Classics is the 10th-oldest continually competed tournament in the country, the first one was held in 1986. The course features water hazards laying closely near the greens and sand-protected raised greens.
This par 72, 7,141-yard tournament has been played for 11 years. The Bearkats have competed in this event since 2017, placing just behind the three-time defending champions Texas A&M. The Kats have tough competition with this 12-team field which includes 7th-ranked LSU, 24th-ranked Texas A&M and 38th-ranked Little Rock.
Last year, the Kats placed second with 14 under. Hugo Trommetter tied for 4th shooting 6 under with a 71-69-70 on his scorecard. Gene Chaikangwai tied for 7th with 4 under firing off 69-77-66, shooting 6 under just in the final round.
Trommetter and Chaikangwai are looking to the lead the team again alongside teammates Bret Gray and Josh German, who helped the Bearkats tie for 15th in the Border Olympics.
Live Scoring will be via Scoreboard by Clippd with updating scores throughout the round as well as results at the end of each day and the final round being streamed on ESPN+ beginning at 9 a.m.
