BEAUMONT, Texas — Sam Houston fell to Lamar, 10-5, on Tuesday night at the LU Softball Complex.

The Cardinals (11-10) jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with a three-run home run. The Bearkats (14-9) responded in the second when Peyton Helmly hit a solo home run to cut into the deficit.

Both teams remained scoreless until the sixth inning, when Sam Houston plated three runs. Morgan Holliday delivered a two-run home run to give the Bearkats the lead.

Lamar answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring seven runs to regain control. Sam Houston was unable to rally in the seventh, despite a solo home run from Veronica Harrison.

Harrison extended her team lead with her eighth home run of the season. Helmly recorded her second home run of the year, while Holliday added her third.

The Bearkats continue their road swing March 6-8 against UTEP at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex in El Paso, Texas.
