
Kats open CUSA play with no hitter against UTEP

EL PASO, Texas — The Bearkats opened conference play with a 6-0 shutout against UTEP on Friday at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex, highlighted by a no-hitter from Tiffany Sanchez.Â
Sanchez pitched her first career no-hitter, the first for Sam Houston since 2021. She threw all seven innings, recording three strikeouts on 76 pitches. Sanchez allowed just one runner to reach base and retired the next 20 batters to close out the game.Â
The Bearkats (14-9, 1-0 CUSA) finished with six hits, including two home runs. Veronica Harrison hit her ninth home run of the season, while Bella Perez added her sixth. Kyla Heine recorded her first double of the season in the top of the fourth inning.Â
Sam Houston added its final runs in the seventh to secure the 6-0 win over the Miners (8-10, 0-1 CUSA).Â
The Bearkats continue the series against UTEP on Saturday, March 7, with first pitch set for 4 p.m. at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.Â
