
Kats set program record with 13-5 win over UTEP

EL PASO, Texas — The Bearkats scored 13 runs in the first inning to set a program record for the most runs in a single inning in a 13-5 win over UTEP on Saturday night at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.Â
Sam Houston (14-9, 2-0 CUSA) opened the game with an explosive first inning, plating 13 runs and highlighted by a home run from Tricia Yarotsky. UTEP (8-10, 0-2 CUSA) responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning.Â
The Miners held the Bearkats scoreless for the remainder of the game and gained momentum in the fourth inning with three additional runs. However, UTEP was unable to complete the comeback as Sam Houston secured the 13-5 victory in five innings.Â
Kendall Daniel pitched all five innings for the Bearkats and recorded one strikeout. Sam Houston's pitching staff did not issue any strikeouts at the plate.Â
The Bearkats will close out the series against UTEP on Sunday, March 8, at noon at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.Â
